BATTLE MAP No.2 – TACTICAL SITUATION AT DUSK ON ‘S’ DAY

by Phil Johnson | June 18th, 2010

Here is the second of the battle maps, showing a simple lay-down of German and British ground forces after the first full day’s fighting in the novel. You can see the breadth and depth of the beach-head quite clearly, along with the ‘finger’ of the German spearhead which has just managed to reach Driffield in order to link up with the German Paras. The British forces, as you can see, are thinly spread at this stage, trying to conduct delaying and blocking operations whilst the General Reserve are rushed northwards to reinforce Northern Command. As with the last map, you can click on it to zoom in for a closer look at the detail.
